First and last impressions are critically important to how your audition will be received and remembered, so finding a monologue that has an impactful or affecting first and last line is going to be highly advantageous. Getting off on the wrong foot with a dull, listless opening is a surefire way to lower expectations of your abilities, and ending on a flat note can take the shine off of what might have otherwise been a very impressive performance, so itโ€™s essential to keep that in mind when selecting your monologue.

That said, there are many terrific monologues that donโ€™t begin and end with bang, but that doesnโ€™t mean they should be passed over; it simply means you have to find a way of investing drama and significance into those opening and closing moments yourself. And you can do thatโ€ฆbecause youโ€™re a talented actor!
